The Beach

Day 32- March 9th

We relaxed in the morning, then drove out to the beach. On the way we stopped at a huge natural arch and a huge waterfall. The arch was a giant, ~30m wide bridge over our heads, with huge stalactite like formations hanging down. After we left the arch was a grassy field. The field was part of a cattle field, so they had stiles for us to cross the fence. These are a set of steps with the fence going down the middle. Sometimes they are twisted for extra security. We also saw cool rock formations in the field.

Afterwards we stopped at a huge waterfall. I tried some experimental pictures of it. A classic waterfall device is to use a long exposure, so as to blur the water. I tried one at both normal and long exposures, just to see what the difference would be. Click to see a larger resolution image.

The beach was a black sand beach, probably made out of magnetite, and was a good place to find fossils. My dad and sister and I went body surfing the waves, but my mom was getting sick, so she had to stay and watch our stuff.

The seaside town of Marokopa

That night I went and played with the two kids of the owners, Max and Pippin, on the trampoline. Later I walked with my dad down to a little sinkhole on their property and took some pictures of glowworms. It’s hard to see at small scale, so click for a larger image.
