Picton to Wellington to Hastings

Day 25- March 2nd

We got up early and caught the Interislander ferry to the North Island. It was very windy, but the boat wasn’t too rocky, so we were okay. Once we arrived in Wellington, we visited the Te Papa (our space) museum. They had a lot of interesting exhibits, but we only had a few hours. There was a big wall full of screens with white remotes, sort of like a Wii remote. You could use them to drag pictures around and paint and make animations. I also saw a huge exhibit on The Treaty of Waitangi, which is what I am doing my research paper on.

We had to leave to get to our campground, but before we did we went  on two motion simulator rides. One took us down to look at deep water volcanic smokers off of New Zealand. The other was a combination of New Zealand attractions, such as motor biking, sledding on sandhills, swinging on a huge rope swing, and more.

We stopped at the grocery store before leaving for our campground. All of the price tags were little LCD screens, similar to those on a digital watch. This way they could change the prices easily. We drove four hours out to East Havelock, near Hastings, where we stayed at the Clifton Motor Camp. We had a little cabin, which we got for 82 dollars a night. It was a very good deal. We had four bunk beds in one room, a double in the next room and a kitchen and bathroom with a shower.
